Ohio St. Wins League Championship!

Ohio St. walked away with the Southline League Championship yesterday after defeating Boston 20-14. Ohio St. came into the game ranked #2 and was looking to avenge two previous losses to #1 seed Boston. The game started out slow with both teams showing some nervousness. Ohio St. was able to quickly settle down and began to hit some shots. Behind solid team defense the Buckeyes were able to jump out to an 8 point lead at half time.

In the second half Boston showed why they were the #1 seed, as they made some adjustments and hit some tough shots. Boston was able to cut the lead to just 2 points late in the game. However, Ohio St. players showed incredible composure and heart as they responded by hitting two shots and buckling down on the defensive side. A couple late free throws sealed the victory for Ohio St. The players stormed the court in celebration as time expired.

Ohio St. played an outstanding team game, getting contributions from every player. Guards Penelope Szymborski and Sara Chislett pestered Boston ball handlers all game and were not afraid to get in there and get the ball. Forwards Jackson McBride and Derek Devore showed great hustle and tough defense which led to many turnovers. Big men Liam Elderkin, Connor Reid and Landon Harte protected the basket all game and kept Boston from getting many rebounds. Lucas Heintz and Lawdon Smith led the Buckeyes in scoring and hit big shots. While Brayden Skotarski was unable to be at the game, the team knew he was cheering for them and it helped them to the 20-14 victory.

The win capped off an outstanding season for the Buckeyes. Although the season didn't start off how they wanted, with 2 losses and a tie in their first 3 games, they showed incredible effort and improvement the rest of the season. Over their last 7 regular season games they went 6-1 and finished the season on a 6 game win streak. The Buckeyes also led the league in scoring and point differential, showing they could get it done both offensively and defensively. The players should be extremely proud of their hard work and hopefully will remember this championship for years to come!
