No quit in the Legends

The Legends lost a close one to Jamestown last night 67-65. What started out looking like it might be a one sided victory for Jamestown turned into them having to fight with everything they had to walk away with the W. In the 1st quarter Lancaster seemed to be over matched by the Leagues #1 team, with Jamestown hitting three 3's and scoring easy buckets. Unlike the last game, Lancaster was able to get the offense going behind Jason Mansell scoring 8 of the teams 13 points in the opening quarter. However, Jamestown seemed to just be to much and had a 24-13 lead after 1. In the second quarter Lancaster's defense started to adjust and was able to keep the game within striking distance. Jackson Jerebko and Mansell accounted for 12 of the teams 13 points in the quarter and Jamestown's lead remained 11 at the end of the 1st half 37-26. In the 2nd half Lancaster came out a different team and showed that they would not be intimidated or just lay down. Lancaster was able to quickly cut the lead down to 4 behind three straight triples from Channing Francis followed by one from Jerebko. The adjustments Coach Otto made at halftime seemed to work as Lancaster's defense began to play much more disciplined, leading to a number of turnovers. Lancaster was able to get the lead all the way down to 1pt going into the last quarter. Francis scored 14 points in the quarter including four long baskets from behind the arc. When the 4th quarter began Jamestown quickly fired back with a 9-0 run bringing their lead back up to double digits. It looked like Lancaster might have run out of steam but after a timeout they dug deep and gave Jamestown everything they could handle the last 7 minutes. The defense again caused a few turnovers and Jerebko cashed them in on the other end hitting two 3's. Senior Adam Bagley came in and played physical down low, getting timely rebounds and scored 6 points late to pull Lancaster within 2 points with just 8 seconds left. Lancaster had to foul sending Jamestown to the line shooting 1-1. The usually sure shot Trey Drake stepped to the line and missed. Lancaster was able to secure the rebound and had a chance but a great defensive play from Jamestown's Elijah Rojas sealed the victory for Jamestown. Mansell finished with a season high 22 points and added 7 steals and 5 assists. Jerebko scored 17pts and added 5rebs. Francis finished with 16pts. Bagley had 6pts, Fulciniti had 2pts and Ryan Merz and Jaydon Brittingham rounded out the scoring with 1pt each. The Legends fought hard and showed that they can play with any team. Let's hope they carry that kind of effort into their next game which is Wednesday at Clarence with a tipoff at 7:30pm.
