Game Recap: Jamestown

Lancaster had their first home game in over a month, as the Legends faced off against another Top 10 large school in Jamestown. The first quarter saw a slow start for both teams as the defenses made baskets hard to come by. Led by Joe Harrington's 8 points in the quarter Lancaster held a 14-10 lead after the first.

In the second quarter Jamestown's press defense began to give Lancaster some trouble. Lancaster has been pretty good at protecting the ball all season, only turning the ball over 13 times a game, but Jamestown was able to force 7 turnovers in the quarter. They were able to cash those turnovers in by hitting a number of open 3s and scoring a few layups. Jamestown led 30-23 at the end of the half.

Lancaster came out of halftime with a different kind of intensity. The third quarter was perhaps the most dominate defensive quarter I have seen them play all season. Big men Joe Harrington and Matt Mazur protected the rim by getting 4 blocks. Players were diving for loose balls and forcing a number of turnovers. Lancaster held the potent Jamestown offense to only 4 points in the quarter. However, the Legends were unable to get any shots to fall and capitalize on the great defense. Lancaster could only muster 7 points themselves and trailed 34-30 at the end of the third.

The fourth quarter has seemed to be Lancaster's achilles heel all season. They have been in a number of tight games going into the final quarter but have been unable to get over the hump late in the game. Jamestown was able to hit open shots and extend their lead with free throws. The Lancaster defense, which had been solid for three quarters, gave up 23 points in the fourth. Jamestown went on to win 57-49 to go to 4-0 in league play. Joe Harrington finished with 16 points and 9 rebounds. Jack Harrington added 14 points, 4 assists and 3 steals. Channing Francis scored 6 points, while Ryan Corcoran added 4 points. Junior Matt Mazur had 2 points and added 8 rebounds and 4 blocks. Eric Frys rounded out the scoring with 2 points.

The Legends fall to 2-2 in the league and will travel to Clarence this Saturday for an early game.
