Game Recap: Frontier

Lancaster hosted Frontier last night in another league matchup. The game wasn't pretty but it came down to the last second in overtime.

The beginning of the game saw Frontier jump out to a 6-0 lead. Lancaster could not buy a basket. After a timeout Lancaster was able to right the ship defensively, but offensively struggled to get anything going. This is a theme that would play out the rest of the game. A very sloppy 1st quarter ended in a tie 7-7.

In the 2nd quarter Lancaster was able to get a few more baskets but still struggled to find a rhythm. Instead, they relied on turning steals into baskets and getting second chance points by crashing the boards. Lancaster held a 21-16 lead at halftime.

The second half was one of the longest I can remember. Between the seemingly endless whistles and the continued sloppy play, I found myself looking at the clock frequently and thinking, "there is still that much time left?" Both teams struggled to score, as the baskets on both ends seemed to have lids on them. Lancaster was able to build a double-digit lead behind a few baskets from Channing Francis and Noah Kimble. Lancaster led 36-26 at the end of the 3rd quarter. While Frontier began to finally find their shooting touch in the 4th, Lancaster continued to struggle. Frontier was able to chip away at the lead and a late basket tied things up with seconds remaining. Lancaster had a shot to win it at the end, and after a couple misses Matt Mazur tipped the ball in as the buzzer sounded. Lancaster thought they had won until the refs determined the basket was after the buzzer. The two teams headed into overtime tied at 42.

The 4 minutes of overtime saw only 1 basket; unfortunately it was by Frontier. Frontier was able to keep the Legends scoreless in overtime and walked away with a 44-42 victory. Kimble led Lancaster with 13 points and added 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Francis had 11 points and 8 rebounds. Joe Harrington had 4 points, 8 rebounds and 3 blocks. Jack Harrington added 4 points and 7 rebounds. Matt Mazur also had 4 points while grabbing 6 rebounds. Eric Frys finished with 4 points and Ryan Corcoran added 2 points. The Legend's next game is Monday, as Orchard Park comes to town for the second meeting of the season.
